Big news for Civilization fans with two new playable Empires joining the fray, Persia and Macedon. Also included in the Spring 2017 update will be balance changes, multiplayer changes and bug fixes.
Persia, led by Cyrus II, is ideal for players who want to build an Empire filled with riches and aren’t afraif to launch a sudden, unexpected military strike. Building his empire through a series of military campaigns, Cyrus II conqued the lands of the Lydians, Elamites, Babylonians, Syria, Judea, and Patrea before self declaring himself the “King of the four corners of the World.”
Unique Unit: The Immortal
Persia’s elite heavy foot soldier, the Immortal will be equip with both long-range and short-range armaments. It is said that Persia’s army consisted of 10,000 Immortals at any given time.
Unique Improvement: The Pairidaeza
The Pairidaeza (Persian Gardens), are closed collections of foliage meant to convey the feeling of paradise on Earth.
Macedon, led by Alexander the Great, was a great kingdom near modern day Greece. Alexander’s military campaign stretched from Greece all the way to Asia and a bit of northeast Africa. Before the age of 30, Alexander overthrew the Persian king Darius III taking control of it’s army.
Undefeated in battle until they met Indian forces in 326 BC, completely overwhelming the Macedonians where they suffered a heavy defeat. Alexander, a defeated warrior passed away soon after in Babylon a defeated.
Unique Unit: The Hypaspist
The Hypaspists were the elite soldiers in the Macedon army, wielding short swords and bearing shields. The Hypaspist’s job was to guard flanks against incoming pikemen.
Unique Unit: The Hetairoi
The Hetairoi was Macedon’s replacement for horseman. Masters of flanking, the Hetairoi’s job was to either overpower the enemy from various directions or have their place at the side of Alexander himself.
Unique Building: Basilikoi Paides
During Macedon’s conquests, often young boys would be taken as hostages and raised as Macadonians. These young boys would then be brainwashed into serving Macedon’s interests above all else.
